Where creativity meets advocacy
By Nathalie Valentina
Born in Florida and raised by South American parents in California, Nathalie’s culture and personal journey serve as motivation for her creative works.
She first discovered her love of writing in 2018 when she practiced therapeutic journaling. What was meant to be a holistic approach to mental health evolved into a hidden talent. Her journaling took the form of poetry and prose, opening her eyes and her heart to new modes of expression.
In January of 2021, Nathalie Valentina Zender was admitted to Harvard University, and in February of 2025, she earned her master’s degree in Creative Writing and Literature. Her novel-in-progress is a coming-of-age Queer Latinx story inspired by her thesis, How to Write Compelling and Authentic Trauma Fiction Using Characterization. She hopes her novel will not only spread awareness of LGBTQ+ social and political injustices, but inspire others to amplify marginalized voices. Another crucial theme centers around sexual assault victim blaming and lack of allyship. Nathalie aims to secure the publication of her manuscript before the end of 2026.
Additionally, Nathalie has been an active member of the Harvard Extension School Creative Writing and Literature Student Society since their launch in March of 2023. She first joined as the Director of Events and is now serving as President for the 2025 academic year. Nathalie’s contribution to HES CWLSS has made a long lasting impact on the Harvard community. She plans to continue supporting the society as an alumni and local author.
When she’s not writing or giving back to the community, Nathalie enjoys reading fantasy, contemporary, and romance novels. She lives in Boston, Massachusetts with her boyfriend, Dixon, and tuxedo cat, Mr. Wilson. And yes, she is aware that their names rhyme. You can find her taking the scenic route to local cafes on warm, sunny days or browsing the shelfs of independent bookstores.
